On the 31st of March in Nowe Horyzonty Cinema we will host a third screening of POLISH BEATS season of Polish Cinema for Beginners. During the upcoming screening we will take a closer look at the Polish fans of The Beatles presented in Yesterday by Radosław Piwowarski.

It’s the end of the 60s. Beatlemania reaches even the outskirts of communist Poland, where four guys, with pageboy hairstyles sing the songs of the British band. “Ringo” – the frontman of their fan band is not only fascinated with music, but for the first time experiences erotic fascination. This is not something his old aunt, his demonic teacher and a harsh vicar approve of. Will love conquer it all? This nostalgic film by Radoslaw Piwowarski received a FIPRESCI award at the Venice Film Festival in 1985. The guest of the screening will be Agata Czarkowska – radio presenter for Radio Wrocław Kulture, a pop culture specialist and a German philologist, who swears that her first words as a child were : John, Paul, George i Ringo.

The 6th season of Polish Cinema for Beginners this time looks at POLISH BEATS. So far we have shown ‘You are God’ by Leszek Dawid and ‘Disco Polo’ by Maciej Bochniak. Still to come, apart from  the story with soundtrack by the legendary four from Liverpool, is a tale of modern but still deadly sirens (‘The Lure’ by Agnieszka Smoczyńska) and and an encounter with a cult collaboration between Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Komeda in a beautiful, jazz filled ‘Innocent Sorcerers’.

The screening of Yesterday will take place on the 31th of March at 19:00 in Nowe Horyzonty Cinema. Tickets can be purchased in the box office or on www.kinohn.pl. For more information about the project please go to www.polishcinema.com.pl and facebook.com/polishcinema
