On the 19th of February in Kino Nowe Horyzonty, the viewers will have a chance to watch “King Size”- a fantasy comedy full of humour and eroticism, that is also a carricature of the communist system in Poland. Our guest will be dr Artur Majer, film expert and an author of “Julisz Machulski’s cinema”.

That’s only the beginning as we have prepared five films for you, all presenting different aspects of Polish cinema.

In March we will show one of the most important works of Polish film school- “Ashes and Diamonds” by Andrzej Wajda. Dawid Junke, film expert who studies philosophical and social effects of pop culture at the University of Wrocław, will talk about this absolute classic picture.

After that it’s time for the first foreign production and Krzysztof Kieślowski’s great international success -“The double life of Veronique”. Here rev. dr. Marek Lis, a lecturer at Opole University and an expert on metaphysical cinema, will explain closely the phenomenon of this film.

One of the most popular meetings from the previous season of Polish Cinema for Beginners was an Oscar winning “Ida” by Pawel Pawlikowski. On the 9thof April we want to invite you to another Polish Oscar candidate “In Darkness” by Agnieszka Holland. Not only is it an excellent war drama but also our guest will be the director herself. Agnieszka Holland will talk about the film and the work process behind it.

All meetings are moderated by Adam Kruk, film expert and film critic, who is also responsible for the programme of PCFB.
