Polish Cinema for Beginners

This coming Thursday we are delighted to invite you to Nowe Horyzonty Cinema for the next screening of the 8th season of Polish Cinema for Beginners. After a trip to Lódź, this time following the “Polish Cities” theme, we will visit Warsaw on the big screen, captured by Jerzy Skolimowski in his “11 minutes”.

Polish – Irish co-production capturing one day in modern Warsaw. Stories of regular residents of the capital city will unexpectedly result in a sudden apocalypse, sometimes compared to the World Trade Centre attacks.

One of the highlights of Venice Film Festival two years ago, that re-established Jerzy Skolimowski (“Start”, “The Shout”, “Essential Killing”) as one of the most original Polish film directors. During Gdynia Film Festival the film was awarded for editing by Agnieszka Gliwińska and music by Paweł Mykietyna.

During the 8th season of Polish Cinema for Beginners we bring you closer the landscapes, history and unique characteristics of Polish cities. After our trip to Łódź (“The Promised Land”) and Warsaw (“11 minutes”) we will visit Lublin in touching “Carte Blanche” by Jacek Lusiński starring Andrzej Chyra, followed by a trip to Wroclaw in the 50s in “Noose”, a classic example of Polish film school, by Wojciech Jerzy Has. For the finale we have chosen one of the most talked about (and most expensive) Polish films of the past decade – presenting the history and beauty of Poznan “Influenz” by Łukasz Barczyk.

As always everything will be held in English, allowing all the residents of Wrocław, regardless of their nationality, to find out more about Polish culture, traditions and history. Our great guests: filmmakers and film experts, will be there to guide the audience through the corners of Polish cities and the charm of Polish cinema. Our guest for the upcoming screening will be the editor of the film Agnieszka Glińska.

The screening of “11 minutes”  will take place on the 16th of March, at 19:00 in Nowe Horyzonty Cinema. Tickets can be purchased in the cinema’s box office and on www.kinonh.pl.
