We are reaching the end of this season of Polish Cinema for Beginners – a unique course in history of Polish cinema designed for foreign residents of Wroclaw. For the finalé we have chosen “Suicide room” by Jan Komasa, a winner of Zlote Lwy, Orly and Zlote Kaczki awards.

During the last three screenings the audience had a chance to follow the stories of women in Polish film: “Ida” from Pawel Pawlikowski’s film, “Perelka” in “Scream” by Barbara Sass and Klara whose story was told by Wieslaw Saniewski in “Custody”. The first male main protagonist in this season of Polish Cinema for Beginners will be Dominik, a teenager who we first meet during his preparation for the final exams in his elite high-school. After the prom a turn of events causes this sensitive, neglected by his parents, harassed by his classmates young man to step into the virtual world. There he meets a mysterious girl Silwia…

“Suicide Room”, which had its premiere during Berlin International Film Festival, was one fo the most popular Polish films of 2011.

Our guest for the final screening in this season of Polish Cinema for Beginners will be Samuel Nowak – culture expert, media expert, doctor of humanities and author of “Sexual capital”. He specialises in cultural studies and culture theory of media. The debate will be hosted by Adam Kruk, film critic and film expert, who is also responsible for the programme of PCFB.

Organised since 2012, Polish Cinema for Beginners has been popular among the audience for the audience from the very beginning. It is the first in Wroclaw, and in the whole of Poland, project dedicated directly to the foreign audience living in Wroclaw, where Polish film classics are screened with English subtitles. The project is has not only entertaining values but it is also educational It could be considered a course in the history of Polish cinema : before each screening an introduction is hosted by an expert- film critics, journalists, scientists and film makers and after each screening we invite the audience to participate in a debate. This is a great chance for people from different cultures to exchange their points of views and bring them together.
