Next week we are happy to invite you to the second screening of Polish Cinema for Beginners season 7. This time together with our audience we will take a closer look at youth shaped by an extreme experience of World War II.
On the 20th of October we invite all the international residents of Wroclaw to a screening of “Warsaw 44”, a cinematic spectacle by Jan Komasa. The young characters in Komasa’s film were meant to be students, to fall in love, to live – instead they were forced to grow up quicly becuase of the war. When on the 1st of August 1944 the Warsaw Uprising stared, Polish young people were ready to fight. One of them is a 18 year old Stefan, who after the death of his father takes care of his family. There is also a beautiful paramedic Alicja and Kama – a feisty liaison officer, who not only fight with the German occupant but also compete with each other over Stefan.
Jan Komasa – a director whose film Suicide Room, was screened before at Polish Cinema for Beginners – this time focuses on the topic of the myth of the Uprising, while at the same time shows it in a completely new way. Visually stunning Warsaw 44, full of grand scenes of fights and sex, turned out to be one of the most popular films in Poland in the last few years.
