During the 7th season of Polish Cinema for Beginner we closely at the lives of Polish youth through decades. Next week, on the 3rd of November, we invite you to join us at a screening of “Floating Skyscrapers” by Tomasz Wasilewski – a story about a love triangle, set in contamporaty Warsaw.

When Kuba, a competitive simmer, meets Michał, a student, a feeling is born. Kuba, however is already in a relationship with Sylwia but also his mother is jealously fighting over his affection. “Floating skyscrapers” attempt to show the spirit of modern youth, who are looking for their identity and try to make the right life choices. The world premiere of Tomasz Wasilewski’s second film United States of Love took place at Tribeca Film Festival in New York and was awarded at Berlinale.

During the 7th season of PCfB we have already looked at the dilemmas of students in the 70’s in Krzysztof Zanussi’s “Illumination” (1973), we went back to World War II and in the super-production by Jan Komasa “Warsaw 44” saw how Polish youth fought in the war. Still ahead, apart from “Floating Skyscrapers” is a portrait of a hippie culture facing the communism in “Hunting Filies” by Andrzej Waja and a total destruction in “Hardcore Disco” by Krzysztof Skonieczny.

As always the whole project is run in English ensuring that all residents of Wrocław, regardless of their country of origin, could enjoy Polish films and with them learn about Polish culture, history and society. In the year of European Capital of Culture we have invited special guests: directors, actors and screenwriters. Get ready for wonderful films, interesting discussions and crazy parties.

The screening of “Floating Skyscrapers” will take place on the 3rd of November at 19:00 in Kino Nowe Horyzonty.
