The main aim of this event is to popularise the art of documentary films to a wide audience in Wroclaw. Subsequently, we want Movie Wro to provide a platform for discussions about any important issues in the modern world. We want to enable this through screenings of full length documentaries, preluded by lectures given by film critics or experts on given topics. What completes each of the screenings, is a discussion between film makers, the critics and the audience, which follows the traditional film club structure of “lecture-screening-discussion”. Documentary Film Academy Movie Wro was established in 2010 and since then has had a pleasure of welcoming such guest speakers as: Michał Bielawski (film critic and director), Jacek Bożek (ecologist), Marcin Hamkało (film and literary critic), Błażej Hrapkowicz (film critic), Jadwiga Hućkova (film theorist), Mikołaj Jazdon (film theorist: Kino dokumentalne Kazimierza Karabasza, Dokumenty Kieślowskiego), Tadeusz Lubelski (film theorist), Paweł Łoziński (director: Taka historia, Chemia), Michał Marczak (director: Koniec Rosji, Fuck For Forest), Jędrzej Morawiecki (reporter and documentary maker: Łuskanie światła. Reportaże rosyjskie), Mirosław Przylipiak (author: Poetyka kina dokumentalnego), Tadeusz Sobolewski (film critic), Tomasz Wolski (director: Złota rybka, Lekarze).
