For the last few years, Polish Cinema for Beginners has been a reoccurring event in Wroclaw. Our screenings of Polish film classics with English subtitles, accompanied by introductions from renowned experts and discussions, have been very well received by both Polish and international residents of Wroclaw. For the very special screening, organised as a part of the European Language Day, we will move from Nowe Horyzonty Cinema to the House of Europe in order to show you “Camouflage” (1976) by Krzysztof Zanussi.

“Camouflage” is set at a university summer camp for the students of linguistics, among which are students from Poland, Italy, and England. They have no problems communicating with each other, but not with the camp directors – cynical and divided they are a perfect reflection of the Polish social landscape in those days. The film, which is an example of “cinema of moral concern”, was a Polish Oscar candidate and is considered a cinema classic. Almost 40 years after the premiere, it is still a great piece to watch!
