On the 3rd of March we come back with a brand new season of Polish Cinema for Beginners – a series presenting a selection of most interesting Polish films with English subtitles. This time we turn the volume up as we present real gems in our cinematography – most interesting films with a strong focus on music.

Organised since 2012 is the first project of its kind in Poland that is aimed directly at the English speaking audience, who often had no opportunities before to discover Polish cinema masterworks and cult classics that define our pop culture.
Polish Cinema for Beginners’ screenings open with a short introduction by an expert, who explains the topic and the context of each film, and close with a discussion, during which the audience can ask question about unclear motives and share their opinions of the film. During the previous seasons we presented films such as “Mother Joan of the Angles” by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, “Man of marble” by Andrzej Wajda, “the Reverse” by Borys Lankosz and Agnieszka Holland’s “In darkness”.

The new season will be held under the banner  “POLISH BEATS. Our playlist no. 6 definitely won’t be boring: the films’ soundtracks will include hip-hop for the tower blocks in Katowice („You are God” by Leszek Dawid) as well as „pavement music” blasting out of the discos all across the country (“Disco Polo” Maciej Bochniak), we will hear songs of the Liverpool’s most famous five in the context on the communist Poland (“Yesterday” by Radosław Piwowarski) and the mesmerizing musical tunes by modern yet still deadly mermaids (“The Lure” by Agnieszka Smoczyńska). For the finale we have chosen a cult collaboration of Andrzej Wajda and Krzysztof Komeda- the beautiful„Innocent Sorcerers” that just screams jazz.

6th season of Polish Cinema for Beginners will resonate in Cinema Nowe Horyzonty from the 3rd of March at 19:00 with the screening of “You are God” until 28th of April, every other Thursday.
Tickets can be purchased before the screenings in the cinema box office and on kinonh.pl website. For more information please go to polishcinema.com.pl and facebook.com/polishcinema
