Polish Cinema for Beginners

During the 6th season of Polish Cinema for Beginners we turn the volume up. In our programme this time we have included some of the more unique gems of our cinematography – the most interesting films with strong focus on music. Our soundtrack for the next screening will be „pavement music” blasting out of the discos all across the country.

Every country does its own thing, even at the disco. In some places you will head Italo disco or turbo folk, here – disco polo. On the 17th of March, during the second screening of this season of Polish Cinema for Beginners, our audience will have a chance to learn more about this unique genre thanks to Maciej Bochniak’s film. “Disco Polo” is tale of Tomek (Dawid Ogrodnik) – an honest man, who decided to become famous and steal the heart of a disco polo diva – Gensonina (Joanna Kulig), and the whole nation. Packed with pop cultural quotes this is a roller coaster ride with a soundtrack including the biggest disco polo hits.

Our guest will be Martyna Gliniecka. A PhD student at the Department of Philology at the University of Wrocław, who teaches at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Wrocław. She describes herself as a pop culture junkie- she doesn’t condemn anything, it can all come in handy some day. She likes when there is too much, when it’s ugly but for a reason. As always Adam Kruk, responsible for the programme of each season, will moderate the discussion.

The screening of “Disco Polo” will take place on the 17th of March at 19:00 in Nowe Horyzonty Cinema. Tickets can be purchased before the screenings in the cinema box office and on kinonh.pl website. For more information please go to polishcinema.com.pl and facebook.com/polishcinema
