The international premiere of a documentary film directed by Rafal Skalski “Monk of the Sea” will be held during the The International Critics’ Week at Film Festival in Locarno. The competition consists of seven films from around the world.
Thailand. A young, twenty-something-year-old student leads a very entertaining life full of parties. One day, just like 70% of men in his country, he decides to become a short-term monk. Ball has two weeks to find his peace and achieve his goal but the whole world seems to be distracting him.

Rafał Skalski – born 1985, 8 September. A film director and a screenwriter of documentaries, fictions and commercials. He finished studies at the Film Directing Department of the Lodz Film School. His documentary debut, “52 percent” (premiere at Polish State Television in 2007) has been awarded and screened on many international festivals, from Cracow and Amsterdam through Toronto, London, Hong Kong to Vancouver. His next documentaries “Girls” (premiere at Polish State Television in 2009) and “Lovers” (made for HBO in 2009) continues journey through a festivals. His favourite convention is combining realistic stories with magical or even fantastic plots – magic realism.
The film was produced by Centrala in co-production with Mosquito Films – Konrad Jakubowski and Indi Film (www.indifilm.de). “Monk of the Sea” was co-financed by the Polish Film Institute and received the support of patrons of culture through crowdfunding portal Polak Potrafi.
Wroclaw Film Foundation handles the cinema distribution in Poland.
