During the upcoming screening of Polish Cinema for Beginners we will look closer at the moment in history when the hippie culture first appeared in the communist Poland. This Thursday we invite you to Nowe Horyzonty Cinema to watch “Hunting Flies” by Andrzej Wajda.
A modest bookshop keeper Włodek (Zygmunt Malanowicz), stuck in an unhappy marriage, meets a beautiful student Irena, who quickly seduces him. However the girl, who is a part of the artistic and intellectual movement of the 60’s, following the ideals of free love, keeps on expecting more and more from him. Would he be able to meet her growing expectations? This cult classic by Andrzej Wajda, a rare example of a comedy by the great director, is an artistic satire of Warsaw in the 60’s and the crisis of masculinity. The script, written by Janusz Głowacki, is based on his short story and the great character of Irena is played by Małgorzata Braunek. The film will be screened in a digitally reconstructed version.
The guest of the screening will be Małgorzata Sadowska – journalist and film critic, currently working for „Newsweek”. She also wrote for „Kino” and „Film” monthly magazines. Winner of the Polish Film Institute awards in 2015 in the „film critic” category. A co-author of „Polish Cinema Now! Focus on Contemporary Polish Cinema” (Adam Mickiewicz Institute) and „Chełmska 21” (WFDiF) devoted to Polish documentaries.
As always the whole project is run in English ensuring that all residents of Wrocław, regardless of their country of origin, could enjoy Polish films and with them learn about Polish culture, history and society.
The screening of “Hunting Flies” will take place of the 17th of October at 19:00 in Kino Nowe Horyzonty. Tickets can be purchased in the box office or on www.kinonh.pl.
