This Thursday we invite you to another Polish Cinema for Beginners meeting. This time we encourage spectators to go on a journey to Wroclaw in the 50s. The vehicle that will take us in back time will be one of the most important Polish films of that time, “Noose” by Wojciech Jerzy Has.

Kuba (Gustaw Holoubek) is an alcoholic. Krystyna (Aleksandra Śląska) is helping him to get out of addiction – they are planning to start a treatment in a rehab clinic. Kuba just has to wait until Krystyna comes back from work. It is difficult to stand alone in the apartment, the phones are ringing, his head is breaking. So he sets out for the city, where the struggle with addiction begins. Created on the basis of a story by Marek Hłasko, set in Wroclaw’s Ołbin district, the film reveals a ghost town in the post-war years – pictures of Mieczysław Jahody are compared to German expressionism. Classic Polish School is a sample of exceptional talent and artistic sensitivity of one of the greatest Polish directors: Wojciech Jerzy Has.
